TECHNIQUE TUESDAY🛠

The Latissimus Dorsi, otherwise known as the "lats" are the largest muscles of the back which cover a vast surface area from an origin standpoint. When properly activated, these muscles can take on a significant load, and play an important role in pushing, pulling, and stabilizing the shoulders and lumbo-pelvic hip complex. If these muscles aren’t contributing to your lift, your body is likely to compensate and execute the lifts with bad form. Injuries, pattern overloading and poor body mechanics are common with these types of compensations.

In order to prepare the Lats for loading, it’s best to spend some time under tension isolating and activating these important muscles prior to your working sets. We will go into more detail about the functionality of your lats at a later date. But for today, we wanted to share with you 2 simple lat-activation exercises. These simple activation techniques prior to your workout, can significantly improve your performance.
